Scoliosis

Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a condition of the spine where extra sideways curves of the spine develop. Most commonly it is diagnosed in the teenage years. Commonly, scoliosis is idiopathic, which means it has an unknown origin.

Chiropractic care is helpful for patients who have mild, stable cases of scoliosis. Usually, these curves are less than 30 degrees, are not progressing and the patient is no longer growing. Chiropractic therapies can help relieve symptoms of mechanical pain. This includes painful ‘restricted’ joints or tightened muscles. These are potential targets of therapy.

Chiropractors are also trained in the diagnosis and identification of Scoliosis and can help to identify if you need a referral on to a specialist for management or if conservative care is right for you.

In our clinic if we identify that a referral out to a specialist is not required after an examination and (where appropriate) X-Ray imaging we can begin treatment. Depending on your circumstances and preferences we may employ:

  1. Active Muscle Release Techniques

  2. Chiropractic Adjustments

  3. Exercise and Rehabilitation
