Frequently Asked Questions

What is the popping sound heard during an adjustment?

The popping sound heard during a Chiropractic Adjustment is the formation of a bubble of gas within a type of joint called a synovial joint. These types of joints are between two bones, filled with fluid and sealed off by a ligamentous capsule. We call this sound that you hear from an adjustment a cavitation. This bubble forms when the ligamentous capsule of the joint is stretched quickly and transiently increases the volume of the capsule. Because the joint is a closed space (a vacuum) something must fill the extra room created during the adjustment and so gases that are already dissolved in the fluid coalesce into a bubble. This bubble will dissolve back into the fluid over 20 or so minutes.

What Can Chiropractic Adjustments Do?

Chiropractic adjustments are primarily used to treat musculoskeletal conditions, such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches. They work by applying a controlled force to the spine or other joints, which can help to improve joint mobility, reduce pain and inflammation, and improve overall function. Chiropractic adjustments can also help to improve posture and alignment, which can have a positive impact on other areas of the body, such as the digestive and respiratory systems.

Why Is It Important To See a Chiropractor for Adjustments?

While there are many home remedies and self-care techniques that can help to alleviate musculoskeletal pain, chiropractic adjustments are an effective and targeted treatment that can provide lasting relief. By working with a trained and licensed chiropractor, patients can receive personalized care and treatment plans that are tailored to their needs and goals. Chiropractors can also help to identify underlying issues that may be contributing to a patient's pain or dysfunction, and provide education and guidance on how to maintain and improve spinal health.

How Safe Are Chiropractic Adjustments?

Chiropractic adjustments are generally safe when performed by a licensed and trained chiropractor. However, like any medical treatment, there are some risks involved. The most common side effects of chiropractic adjustments include temporary soreness or stiffness in the treated area. More serious complications are rare, but can include herniated discs, stroke, or nerve damage. However, these complications are extremely rare, and the benefits of chiropractic adjustments generally outweigh the risks for most patients.

Do I need a Referral?

No, you do not need a referral to see a Chiropractor to be adjustmented. However, we accept EPC referrals (Enhanced Primary Care Plans) from GP’s.
